Tips for Naturally Regrowing your Hair
There is no bigger single act of indecision than that of whether to have your hair chopped off or not. How many times have you spent years growing your hair long, to then fancy a change and arrange for half its length to be chopped off, only to regret it two weeks later?
The problem is, it’s so much easier to cut hair than for it to grow back. Hair growth can take years, especially if you want to do it the healthy way. Luckily, there are several home remedies you can try out that can naturally speed up your hair growth and help you regrow the hair you’ve lost.
We’ve taken to the internet once more to find the best tips for naturally regrowing your hair. Here’s what we found:
1. Massaging
Who doesn’t love a head massage? And now there’s all the more reason to buy one of those special claw tools so you can DIY massage your scalp whenever you feel like it, because science has found it can be used to restore hair growth in combination with hair oils and masks. It’s thought that massage stimulates the scalp, with the stretching forces during the massage encouraging hair growth and thickness in the dermal papilla cells.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a bit of a health wonder, and we’ve been slathering it all over our bodies to induce all sorts of benefits. It’s a good source of fatty acids, which experts say can penetrate inside the hair shaft and reduce protein loss from hair. You can either use coconut oil as a leave-in treatment overnight before you wash it (a good option if your hair is prone to greasiness) or rub it into damp hair after your shower.
3. Aloe vera
If you’ve ever wondered why shampoo and conditioner brands seem obsessed with adding aloe vera to their products, it’s because the ingredient works wonders in treating hair loss. As an added bonus, aloe extract is said to soothe the scalp and condition hair, as well as eliminating dandruff and unblocking hair follicles. In an ideal world, we’d recommend getting yourself an aloe plant and applying aloe vera gel to your hair a few times per week. If you haven’t got the time for looking after a plant, buying aloe oil from the shop will do.
4. Fish oil
Fish oil is definitely an acquired taste (read: you’ll probably need to hold your nose and shot it to get it down), but consuming omega fatty acids is a great way to improve your hair from the inside, as they’re chock-full of essential nutrients and proteins. Taking an omega supplement alongside a good dose of antioxidants can enhance hair density and diameter and reduce hair loss. An extra plus point of omega 3 fatty acids is that they can help your cells to work correctly and boost immunity – so you’ll be healthier overall.
5. Onion juice
From one gross-smelling remedy to another, onion juice is another good one for hair growth – and you won’t have to actually ingest this concoction. Onion juice has been used in studies to successfully treat alopecia by promoting hair growth. It can also improve circulation by enhancing keratin growth factor and blood flow to the cuticles. Make onion juice by blending a few onions and squeezing out the juice, then apply to your scalp and hair and leave in for at least 15 minutes before following up with a much-needed hair wash.
6. Rosemary oil
If you consider yourself a bit of an essential oil guru, you’ll already know that rosemary oil is one of the best for promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss. Rosemary oil stimulates new hair growth and can be used to treat hair loss conditions like alopecia. Simply mix a few drops of rosemary oil with a carrier oil like coconut and massage it into your hair and scalp before rinsing off.
7. Lemon juice
In the spirit of the recently celebrated pancake day, you now have an actual use for your leftover lemon juice. You can use either fresh lemon juice or lemon oil, as both are said to enhance hair quality and growth. Lemon oil is particularly useful for promoting a healthy scalp and encouraging hair growth. Add fresh lemon juice to a bowl then apply to your scalp and hair. Leave it in for 15 minutes before you shampoo as normal.
